Karan is not a book to be placed in the niche category of homosexuality.
It is a story about self-discovery, a story about love, a story about two people, who are so different from each other that the struggle of getting close is nearly as hard as the torture of being without the other one.
Aids, as well, is not to be categorised as a niche disease like it is still done so often in the face of too many prejudices. This is one reason why 50 cent of each sold copy will be donated to the aid organisation Deutsche Aids-Hilfe. As Aids is unfortunately still ’foisted’ on the gay world, this donation is supposed to show that doing this is as stupid as not regarding a homosexual love as equal.
Karan stands first and foremost for tolerance, love and the strength to stand by oneself – all things that affect EVERYONE of us.

Charity Campaign
The human immunodeficiency virus Aids is not only a current topic in Germany. According to an estimation, approximately 5.5 Mio. Indians are infected with HIV. In relation to a population of 1.1 billion people this means that five percent of the Indian population carry the virus. A lack of information, especially among the poorest of the poorest, is one reason for this high rate of the disease. In 2007 the condom manufacturer Durex published a survey, providing another frightening result: the standard size of condoms is too big for Indian men, leading to condoms being faultily used, thus, increasing the possible spreading of the Aids virus.
A few weeks ago I have initiated a raffle together with BNA Germany, offering the chance to win versatile prices for a small donation from your side.
After careful consideration we have presented the income contributions to private Aids activist Uwe Görke, who could use it for some good deeds immediately. He visited blind Aids patient Peter to hand the donations over to him. If you like, please read up about all the things Uwe moves elsewhere as well under http://www.uwegoerke.de/. He does not only face his own daily fight against the damned virus – no, he also does inform, advice and help persons concerned. But please read it yourself.
