Karan ist kein Nischenbuch über Homosexualität.
Es ist eine Selbstfindungsgeschichte, eine Liebesgeschichte, eine Geschichte über zwei Menschen, die so unterschiedlich sind, dass der Kampf, sich näherzukommen, fast so groß ist wie die Qual, ohne den anderen zu sein.
Aids ist genauso wenig eine Nischenkrankheit, zu der sie leider noch immer voller Vorurteile gemacht wird. Das ist einer der Gründe, warum 50 Cent jedes gekauften Exemplars von Karan an die Aids-Hilfe gehen werden. Gerade weil Aids noch immer häufig der schwulen Welt 'untergejubelt' wird, soll hiermit aufgezeigt werden, dass das genauso dumm ist, wie eine homosexuelle Liebe nicht als gleichwertig anzusehen.
Karan steht vor allem für Toleranz, für Liebe und für die Kraft, zu sich selbst zu stehen - alles Dinge, die JEDEN von uns berühren.
Spendenaktion
Die Immunschwächekrankheit Aids ist nicht nur in Deutschland ein Thema. Ca. 5,5 Mio. Inder sind einer Schätzung nach mit dem HIV-Virus infiziert. Bei einer Bevölkerungszahl von 1,1 Milliarden bedeutet dies, dass fünf Prozent der indischen Bevölkerung den Virus in sich tragen. Mangelnde Aufklärung gerade unter den Ärmsten der Armen ist ein Grund für diese hohe Aids-Rate. In 2007 veröffentlichte der Kondom-Hersteller Durex eine Studie mit einem weiteren erschreckenden Ergebnis: Die Standardgröße der Kondome ist zu groß für indische Männer. Dies führt dazu, dass Kondome nicht fachgerecht verwendet werden (können) und sich somit die Möglichkeit einer Verbreitung des Aids-Virus erhöht.
Vor einigen Wochen habe ich gemeinsam mit BNA Germany eine Verlosung veranstaltet, bei der gegen eine kleine Spendenzahlung vielfältige Sachpreise zu gewinnen waren.
Nach reiflicher Überlegung haben wir die eingegangenen Beträge dem Privat-Aids-Aktivisten Uwe Görke überlassen, der sofort Gutes mit den Geldern tun konnte. Er stellt sich nicht nur seinem täglichen Kampf gegen das verflixte Virus – nein, mit allen verfügbaren Kräften informiert, berät und hilft er Betroffenen. Aber lest selbst.

Karan is not a book to be placed in the niche category of homosexuality.
It is a story about self-discovery, a story about love, a story about two people, who are so different from each other that the struggle of getting close is nearly as hard as the torture of being without the other one.
Aids, as well, is not to be categorised as a niche disease like it is still done so often in the face of too many prejudices. This is one reason why 50 cent of each sold copy will be donated to the aid organisation Deutsche Aids-Hilfe. As Aids is unfortunately still ’foisted’ on the gay world, this donation is supposed to show that doing this is as stupid as not regarding a homosexual love as equal.
Karan stands first and foremost for tolerance, love and the strength to stand by oneself – all things that affect EVERYONE of us.

The human immunodeficiency virus Aids is not only a current topic in Germany. According to an estimation, approximately 5.5 Mio. Indians are infected with HIV. In relation to a population of 1.1 billion people this means that five percent of the Indian population carry the virus. A lack of information, especially among the poorest of the poorest, is one reason for this high rate of the disease. In 2007 the condom manufacturer Durex published a survey, providing another frightening result: the standard size of condoms is too big for Indian men, leading to condoms being faultily used, thus, increasing the possible spreading of the Aids virus.
A few weeks ago I have initiated a raffle together with BNA Germany, offering the chance to win versatile prices for a small donation from your side.
After careful consideration we have presented the income contributions to private Aids activist Uwe Görke, who could use it for some good deeds immediately.
