Character biographies
Main characters
Karan Chaudhary Mahal:
Everyone knows it: The story of the ugly duckling, which develops to the beautiful swan. It seems that Karan Mahal has worked his way through this very metamorphosis. Where fear once lived, drive and courage are now. Where dissatisfaction once paralyzed, power and determination burst the chains now. Where diplomacy and gentleness once made the way, straightforwardness and surprising boldness roll whole aisles in densely populated forests now. Karan has changed and evolved. He has grown up, maybe even too much in Dev's eyes. So that the latter, despite all of his feelings for Karan, cannot help thinking that he would rather have the old Karan back.
Devakumar "Dev" Rao:
Dev is happy. Almost overjoyed! He is married. Karan has simply overpowered him and took him into possession. Dev could burst with joy. His Karan is now really his forever! Full of pride for Karan, who also evolves professionally and goes his own way, voluntarily and carelessly, he gives up on his own. He follows his husband in unknown adventures, in which he can fight dragons and save worlds for him, literally. Bit by bit Dev gradually understands that Karan can and will definitely fight his own battles. He also has to disciver that he does not need Dev as a hero. This knowledge, together with the sudden understanding that not only Karan – but he also – has changed, brings Dev the King of Chaos into the arena. And to the horror of the whole Rao-Singh-Mahal clan, desperate Dev releases hellfire that threatens to burn them all.
Minor characters
Tara Singh:
After long years of searching, Tara Singh is finally happy, almost. Her newlywed husband, Jai, carries her on his hands, reads her every wish off her eyes and brings her a star from the sky silently (which makes it even more impressive) every once in a while. Even the usual escapades of her beloved Dev and her friend Karan could not disturb or even upset her if it was not for a serious phone call that has stung her deeply in her heart. And despite her happiness with Jai and their baby, she would not have been severely burdened for many years.
Jaswinder "Jai" Singh:
Jai, Dev's best friend from childhood, is in the seventh heaven. Tara has married him not only in spite of her parents' threats to banish her, but has also fulfilled the dearest wish of his heart – a baby. Jai's life could now be so complete and perfect since he has everything a man can only wish for: a great job, a big bank account, his own family, and Dev, who drives him crazy. Or is it not Dev this time? Could this chaos really come from Karan for once? Jai will find out, and then he has to decide whether he simply should chain Dev to a tree and walk away. And send Karan to a psychiatrist to let him check his mental state. For none of this appears acceptable to his petite but energetic wife Tara, he must find a way to bring his favorite chaotic couple back on the right track with his usual extra dose of humor.
Chandni Rao:
Mostly to spite Dev, his younger sister takes her life into her own hands and accompanies her husband Jonathan in a distant land filled with new adventures and professional as well as private opportunities. Still, mostly because of the bond of love she shares with her brother and thanks to the wonder of technology called the Internet and webcam, she is connected with him around the clock. And in a moment of highest emotional distress, she reaches her sisterly hand to him. But even though she used to be the only one who had access to her hot-headed brother, this time she is the one who is hopelessly overwhelmed.
Jonathan Sinclair:
Jonathan is Dev's former bodyguard, who is overjoyed to have finally married his Chandni. Because of Dev's withdrawal from the theatrical life and Tara's wedding with Jai there is hardly work for him at the house of Rao, together with his wife he slightly drifts apart from his chaotic Indian family and builds a new life in another country. But even far away from London, one day he is faced the fact: Dev the Chaos God is back, and with him a truckload full of twists and turns.
Meghna Mahal:
Meghna, Karan's extraordinary mother, has to be the calm pole for her loved ones once again in this part of the Trilogy. But if until now she had to deal with only one Rao, now she has to worry about emotional chaos of three generations: about the aging Arun, about Dev, who has lost his way, and about the overwhelmed with hormones and puberty-stricken Arjun. Will she still find the strength to withstand her own stroke of faith?
Arun Rao:
Arun, Dev's father, is still trying to accept the fact that his son is married to a man. Being Karan's best man, he has showed a great sign of tolerance, and yet he falls back and again in musing. A man and a man – can this go well? It goes against everything that is considered socially acceptable. Still, in spite of his thoughts and fears, Arun stands by his son. And when it is hard for him, Meghna shows him (if necessary, with a little pat on the neck) that he has to think about his own unconventional ways: the wedding with an English lady – against all odds.
Adrian Gregory:
Gregory, the black sheep of the Jadoo family, continues to indulge in his secret penchant for young men. But since his extortion attempt, there is ice in relationship between Dev and the man with whom he has shared the bed for the first time. To Dev, it is clear: Gregory is ruthless and cold. In his chest beats no heart. But then, during one completely crazy night, Dev recognizes that one should never judge a book after its cover.
Arjun and Sara Rao
Dev's teenage twins, who are still little babies in his eyes, gradually follow the footsteps of their ancestors. While Sara keeps things to herself and has inherited wise charm of her aunt Chandni, Arjun is the exact image of his father. The hormone-infested boy, not only copies the sexual experimentation by Dev Rao – no, his whole temperament is like his dad’s. The fact that misunderstandings, unspoken desires, turf wars and turbulent events sweeten the life of both Raos is obvious.
Aiden
A surprise guest, who will bring much joy to all parties, only for some, a little bit more than the others.

And they all lived happily ever after …
.
This is the way every fairy tale usually ends. The one about Karan Mahal and Dev Rao is no exception.
.
But what happens when after years of longing and obstacles, one marries the love of his life and is gradually absorbed into his daily routine?
.
How is it possible, despite the contrast, to develop a relationship from infatuation into deep love and friendship? How can you tell whether you should (and can) argue or reconcile, go separate ways, or go one way? How do you deal with the almost suffocating wealth that surrounds you since your wedding? Can you understand a firm insistence of your loved one on his own income, when all you really want is for your partner to have a heaven on earth? And you want to share with him everything you own?
What happens if in addition to these main issues, the shy Karan suddenly becomes a purposeful all-around manager, explores new paths and, full of pure new visions, completely changes the life of his then only hero Dev, and turns it inside out and upside down? Can a self-proclaimed Superman, a doer and a decision maker as Dev Rao step back when necessary? To hold his ground when needed?
And what if – on top of all – Karan (of all people!) finds out that there are also other men besides Dev? Is the marriage certificate a guarantee for eternal love and loyalty? Are the rings, which are exchanged on the wedding day, a symbol, a restraint or even a curse? Or are they the Holy Grail that one absolutely wants to call his own again?
In Jaan, many questions cross the lives of both heroes.
.
But it is not only our own small obstacles that make hearts burn and walls collapse. Sometimes, another fire is at fault when the world, in which a man previously felt safe, changes from the ground up.
